Here’s one thing I never really understood about that debate… why does everyone get so upset about this? It’s easy to believe that a man should never be with a man. We weren’t really meant to be partnered off with a partner of the same sex. If that were the case, humans would have been up in eternity playing whack the dodo – another extinct animal. It appears to be that the decision to marry should not be drawn along the lines of these natural endowments.
Why would we? If penguins and baboons are content in engaging in homosexual intercourse – who’s to say that humans are any better? At least we use protection! Those dirty monkeys are probably passing all kinds of nasty things to each other - like monkey clap. I have my monkey checked monthly to make sure she’s not going to give me a disease she picked up from an orange she humped.
Marriage is a religious institution that the governments have picked up from back in the day. For example, in 1000 A.D. the Pope was dominating the social scene. He was powerful and had all kinds of lucrative real estate. He had the power to force men into battle. People went on crusade and attacked the Holy Lands - again and again. Armies massacred their own people in the name of God against heresy in Southern France, Languedoc (this is where my history knowledge comes in handy – go fig – I went to college to write a blog).
Let’s zoom 1000 years into the future. The pope has become a powerful religious figure – and no more. He no longer commands powerful armies (nor does he command weak armies of children). He is a pacifist… Our modern crusades against “terror” is really a mess we made without the Pope and all for the greater glory of oil… I mean God… no I meant oil.
Regardless marriage is a sacred thing, I agree, and men should not marry each other in Holy Matrimony – I agree with that as well. It is the fact that people can “marry” in government that I do not agree with. It is the idea that a man and a woman’s union in front of a judge has “sanctity” that I don’t understand. Who gives this union a blessing respecting the ideals of nature? The Greeks were humping each other well before the idea of Marriage in our current understanding formulated. Alexander the Great had all kinds of homosexual romps.
We should really be more progressive about this issue.
