Why I hate (Commerce Bank) TD Bank

28 02 2008

Commerce TD Bank likes to pride itself on is “WOW” service.  I have gotten my fair share of the WOW treatment.  The kind of treatment where you walk out of there and think WOW – I should really bank elsewhere.  Sometimes I think WOW – they hired that person…. and they didn’t pass the second grade.

I opened my account in November of 2006.   Totally free checking?! No way!  Yep – it’s only free for a year… then you have to have a $100 minimum or they charge you $15 to make themselves feel better.  I didn’t mind that.  What I minded that the customer service person didn’t double check my Social Security number before clicking enter.  There also isn’t a person verifying the number and notifying you of the mistake made.  No, they tell you it’s your fault your social security number is wrong when your direct deposit goes through and you want to withdraw money.  It will give you a short message saying, “Your account is not accessible (asshole).  Please contact the customer service representative at 800-Blow-Me.

Not only is it your fault – it will take 2 weeks to fix because they don’t keep proper paperwork and never follow up.  Everytime I went the person walked off and photocopied my information for their files.  They did this three times.  What the hell happened to the copies.

How did I resolve this issue?  I had to wander back into the bank (during regular bank hours – because no one really needs to work) and talk to everyone and their mother.  It’s not as easy as changing the number back and correcting the problem.  You have to resubmit all your paper work (ID and SSN card) and sign some random form – and then wait for the back office to clear it.  This would have been a great ditterent if I had purchased my SSN on a street corner somewhere.

Once we passed that minuscule hurdle, things were smooth sailing… until today.  Direct Loan Services took the liberty of deducting my loan payment twice.  They had done this two months previous and I called in January and was told the situation was taken care of.  Sadly, it was not the case.  I was charged twice for my loans yet again (this bumps  up my – I don’t have anymore loans party one month to January 28, 2016) . They told me they could not stop the payment, but that my bank should – people do it all the time and there is no fee from the loan services people.  I call Commerce TD. The bank guy is nice and curt.  He tells me the stop cannot be done over the phone and must be processed at the bank for an immediate reimbursement from 9-5 after filing a request form.  Luckily a bank exist a block north from my job.

I head down there and talk to the customer service.  She spends most of her time trying to figure out my problem.  I think “So this is what happened.  My loan automatically withdrew an extra payment from my checking account, and I would like the payment stopped because it has overdrawn the account.”  I don’t think this implies I sent in a check unless people send automatic requests on paper… Regardless she asks me 3 times for the check number.  Each time I say – it’s not a check – it was an automatic withdrawal from the checking account.  She looks on the computer, pulls up my account and opens her eyes wide to say.  “Oh no, did you know you’re overdrawn?”  I almost shit myself – it’s the reason I was there.   After she puts on her thinking cap and realizes that I was charged twice and it has overdrawn my account.

Commerce TD Girl: We usually advice our clients not to charge more than they have in their accounts.

JJRC: Yea, didn’t I mention this was an accident and I don’t charge money I don’t have on my debit card?

Commerce TD Girl: Yea… well ok, so – if you want a stop to the charge – then you have to pay $25.  Then there may be a $15 charge if it clears before the stop is complete.  The stop takes 48 hours and you may see your money on Monday.”

JJRC: What do you mean may be there Monday?! You online service people told me it would be an immediate compensation and no charge was ever mentioned.

Commerce TD Girl: Well, I don’t know what to tell you.  They should really know better. Do you want this done or no?

JJRC: There’s no other option – even though your people didn’t inform me about any of this before I came down here?

Commerce Girl: I already told you – I don’t know what to say about them.  So, what are we doing now?

JJRC: I don’t want to deal with this anymore… you people are ridiculous.

Commerce TD Girl: hmm… Ok – well have a nice…

JJRC: Right.

At this point I stopped listening to her and got up and grabbed my shit – I needed to get back to work.  During lunch I got out of the office and wandered over to the other bank where I have my savings and withdrew more money than I needed.  I wandered back to Commerce TD where some jerk-off named Fields decides he needs to say “Ugh, give me your card and I’ll pull up your account number – though you should have it.”  I could have lost it right then and there – luckily I’m beyond that point.  I laugh at him and his pettiness.

So Fields and his stupid co-worker Nicole need to have a Pow-Wow about how to deal with customers who are beyond annoyed.

Lesson learned here are:

- Do not trust the bank to resolve any of your problems on their own.  They won’t.  They’re too busy being “friendly” and putting out dog bowls with stale water in it to care.

-Don’t assume the bank people are telling you how much anything costs up-front.  They’ll make it your only option and then spring the money on you.

-Don’t allow bank people the pleasure of patronizing you.  Yes, you are the customer and answers like “Umm – I don’t know what they were telling you – but they’re wrong.” Shouldn’t be in their service vocab.

-Chastising bank customers when they’re depositing over $1,000 is an idiotic thing to do. Banks chastise you like they’re doing you a favor by letting you bank with them.

Sigh

Hey man… I work at commerce and i totally understand what you are saying… the people they hire are out of their freaking minds… I have only been working for commerce for 2 year but i can count on one hand the people that i would trust helping me with my banking. I have been trying to get out for months, but due to my sick wife i cant afford the lack of health insurance so I’m stuck for now… just keep letting people know commerce doesnt really care.. and they never will. when your tellers make 9 an hour they arent going to care… they are just going to be glad they dont work at Wawa anymore… I am running the teller side and a 33,000 transaction a month branch and getting paid under 12 an hr. now where is the motivation for that? I do the best i can for the customers b/c its not their fault commerce sucks, but thats why some customers get treated unfairly

I think you are a stupid fool! I am current employee here at Commerce and its dumb idiots like you that make life hard! You have no clue on what’s going on with YOUR ACCOUNT. It is not our job to balance your book and make sure you have enough money to cover checks YOU WROTE! As fas as the teller that replied, your a fool to. You guys in the branch have NO CLUE what is going on and if you just don’t care. Maybe if you stepped it up a bit and gave customers accurate info. then shit like this wouldn’t happen.
Sir you must have NO LIFE to make a website about how much you hate us! Well fom US TO YOU!! HAVE A WOW FUCKING DAY!

I think you are just bitter because you’re making dick money at a shit job. That’s why they treat you like shit at TD, because they treat their own employees that way. No surprise there.

WOW… You must be the fucking moron that the guy had to deal with… Seriously.. read your post.. your saying everything that the idiot at his bank said.. HE DIDN’T mis-balance his shit.. it was a double draft.. done by commerce, taking two payments at once, for a loan, from COMMERCE.. The bank messed up, customer service didn’t notate his account when he called, so when he went to the branch, they had no clue what he was talking about. I have been banking with commerce for about 5 years, I have had some problems, but commerce fixed them pretty fast.. Seems that when you call in, if you ask for that persons name, and direct # before you finish the conversation, they tend to fix it.. for either the fact that they are a good person and want to do a good job for you, or they fear that you will call back and throw them under the bus for screwing you over.. either way. Anonymous.. you should be fired for your post.

I also work at Commerce. I’ve been there for two years. We have a 120k [That K means THOUSAND incase YOU didn't pass 2nd grade] transaction per month store. You should stop blaming Commerce for your mistakes. Maybe YOU should have double checked your SS number? You should know that no matter what bank you go to you will have problems here and there. You’re the type of customer who comes in and gets all moany groany when we don’t have “the right” Penny Arcade prize or lollipops. God forbid we’re too busy doing YOUR transactions to worry about the lollipops being filled.
Get off your high horse. If you hate Commerce so much…take your $5.00 balance, stop getting monthly charges because you’re broke and can’t keep $100 in your account a month and GET A NEW BANK! For everyone ONE customer that has a problem…there’s a million more who LOVE us. :)

Dear readers,

God forbid there’s bad press about Commerce. Of course, you would know the balance on my account – or anything about me. So – let’s recap and cut the crap. I have had three Commerce Bank employees post. One of them has posted during work hours – from work computers (yes, this thing tells me where you’re posting from). FYI – I’ve let Commerce know about their WOW service and the WOW language you people decide to use – hopefully they respond soon enough – because if not then they’re going to hear from the better business bureau. Another agreed with me – and then there’s the third one who decides to call my calls for better customer service being on a “high horse.” You’re right – i should never expect to be treated like a person at your establishment – my first mistake was banking there – my second mistake was expecting to be treated with respect.

Also, this is the account I pay my bills from. Turns out it’s a pain in the ass to have to change all the numbers from a checking account I’ve had for two years. So, I just feed in the money I need to pay my bills – my savings – as you’ve noticed is handled by a better run bank – I barely trust Commerce to hold my money for a month. So, the double charge was indeed my fault/billing dept’s fault – the ear wax in that woman’s head that prevented her from understanding me or even trying to be remotely helpful – is pretty much Commerce’s. Fields deciding to act like a dick when all I wanted to do was deposit money and I politely asked him for my account number – Commerce’s fault. My information being entered wrong is Commerce’s fault. The inability to correct my social security number for 2 weeks even though I continuously went to the bank to push it along – is Commerce’s fault. The misinformation I received on the charges was Commerce’s fault.

I entered Commerce with a good attitude twice that day – and twice Commerce employees crapped all over it. I have never in all the years that I have worked and deposited my money somewhere – experienced the lack of cooperation and understanding provided by two different branches at Commerce.

Also, I didn’t write down my own social security number – he punched into his computer – with the screen not facing me. He entered it after deciding I didn’t need to see the number or any information – figured he would have the 2 brain cells to double check something as important as the SSN and address – what I would expect from WOW service. And no, you don’t have 1 million people that love you. You have 1 million people that are barely satified and are quiet.

I now bank at WaMu and honestly – they’re amazing – couretous and accomodating.

Next time you post a comment, you should leave your email address behind – because what you two losers do is cowardly. At the very least give me the decency to respond to you properly. Just so you know – it’s you two fucks that make my Commerce experience the worst it could possibly be. Of course I know my money is my problem – but my money is also your problem. The bank exists for its customers – even the “moany” ones who get pissed off when their customer service reps are consistently inept.

Thanks Commerce for showing your true colors!

Please Read This To The End and Contact Me if You Feel The Same Way. This bank should be named the Stepford Bank. Everyone walks in lock step and spews the Corporate Excuses. I woke up this morning to find that I had gone into the negative $900 in my account. I called the “Friendly” people at the Customer Service # and spoke to a wonderful young lady who told me “Don’t worry Sir, as long as you can cover it by 6:00 there would be no charges”. Great Right? I had a wire transfer of $8900 coming in so I didn’t sweat it. I even told my customer at 10:00 am that as long as it was in by 6:00 pm, everything was fine. At 5:00 pm, I called the bank to make sure the funds had been deposited. They had BUT he said that I’m afraid the checks were Returned and I was being charged 3 X $35 for the 3 NSF checks. Now I’m getting Steamed and told the man that I was told that 6:00 pm was the deadline per your Representitive. Sorry Sir they were wrong. They had no record of the call. Ok, While I have you on let’s talk to my Branch Manager, all 3 of us. Now I could have had the money in by 12:00 but listened to the rep. Well sir, If you did we would have Paid the Checks But You STILL owe us the NSF’s. What?? The Branch Manager refunded 1 of the 3 $35 Fee’s. WoW, Great… Are you people kidding? Sir, You should have Overdraft Protection.
Now I’m Mad. I told the Manager that I applied for and was turned down for the minimum $500 OD Protection. When this recession started 8 months ago, my 720 score went below 500. I wasn’t getting paid on work done. It seems this progressive bank is doing well so everyone else must be too. The only criteria they use is the Credit Score. I’m Screwed! I know, I’ll put $500 into another account there for Overdraft and the world will be centered again. Not So Fast. I’m sorry Sir, We do not have the ability for that as an option. I gotta tell you. I was wondering what kind of Rube Goldberg Place I had my money in. You mean to tell me that I can’t put $500 of my own hard earned money into a seperate account as a safety net to take the place of your OD Protection. Yes, That’s right Sir. UMMMMM, HuH???
It seems that there’s more money in Squeezing $35 a pop for NSF and OD’s out of the working guy than running a bank. So now I have to Start a bank account with another “More Friendly Bank” and stay with Commerce for 2 months during the transition.

Now, If you’ve had this or something similiar to this happen to you, Let’s Petition our Senators to do something about this Gouging and Nondisclosure done to us by Commerce Bank (They Get Paid Well To Do Things Like This). Alone we are Whiners, Together we can possibly make a difference. No Bank wants their name on the Op-Ed Page of Newsday or on TV’s “Shame on You” with Arnold Panzer. Let’s make the Banks understand that we are Suffering and They are a part of the Problem.
Thanks For Reading This.

I agree that the fees are sometimes unfair. I also agree that a savings account should be used as a safety net, however that is not Commerce’s policy. Federal law REQUIRES that you have the money in your account before you write checks, if not you are writing a bad check, hence illegal! There are 2 sides too everys story and I am explaining from a bankers perspective.
Good Luck w/ someone else, that is not open on holidays and weekends and that charges to speak to customer service! I wish you the best

It’s not that I wrote two checks that made my account overdrawn. I had a billing department charge me twice. I told her that before we started – she just didn’t listen and proceeded to give me a small lecture on why I shouldn’t write checks i can’t cash.

Yes, it’s nice that they’re opened on holidays and Sundays… I’ll miss that.

Thanks for the wishes!

LOL, looking back do you see how it looks from the banks perspective ? I am a Commerce employee and customer and yes the branch workers do need to be better trained. I also have a bank account at Soveregin and I have come to realize no matter where you bank you are not going to be 100% sastified. You do your part and maintain YOUR ACCOUNT and then things like what happened to you will happen less often.

P.S.
I have commented on some of your other blogs,

Wow, the attitude of the commerce employees posting on this website is quite scary. I work at one of the 3 largest banks in this country and while we have our fair share of complaints and customer service horror stories I can tell you that my branch would not tolerate that level of customer service. What happened to you is both shocking and inexcusable. First off, where I work if you have a EFT via ACH(electronic funds transfer) which it sounds like this double payment was then we can file a claim with our ACH dispute department. There are some forms which would need to be filled out and signed showing you authorized us to file this dispute but we give you a temporary credit until the investigation is complete. In your case since the company charged you twice and was only authorized to charge you once your money would be refunded as would any overdraft fees which were posted to your account. Also, if we make a mistake on your social security number we can change it on our system right then and there. Obviously our bank has stupid rules and policies as all companies do but we are continually looking at these and trying to eliminate them if there is no valid reason for them to be there. I wish you better luck at Washington Mutual.

I am former customer and employee of commerce. I saw customers come in all the time with mysterious negatives. Commerce is un-uniform and the phone customer service reps aren’t on the same page as the in branch ones. I used to work there but couldn’t take the hours, low pay or the rude superisors with no experience. I am disappointed in Commerce and would never return as because as soon as I resigned a previous negative account of mine was suddenly found and posted to my new account. The account had been closed for months and two days after I leave they put my accounts to zero. No warning, all for overdraft fees, I was an employee I thought I received some leeway with fees. I did while I worked there but two days after I leave all my money is gone and I’m being recharged for cleared fines into my other accounts. They tell me the timing has nothing to do with it. Now to top things off, I wrote checks against my account and its already showing negative. And they tell me I’m gonna be charged $35 for the check not being paid. And the collections rep had the audacity to talk over me, interrupt me, and negate everything I said.

Good luck with your situation. Those Direct Loan Services are usually shady charging 400% of the loan amount. However, it is not your fault you received misinformation.

For Mike Berrick, they also gave you misinformation, if a check comes in and your account is negative to avoid a fee and still have the check paid you have to make a deposit on that day before 11AM because checks are manually sent back by the on duty AM or Sup. Those checks actually come in the previous night not that morning. Before six deposits are just for same day posting instead of next day.

Commerce bank has given me a least a dozen different stories about a recent issue. All of which are in direct contrast to Expedited Funds Availability Act.

New tagline: Commerce America’s Worst Bank!

28 08 2008
Jessica

That Act is also know as REG CC. That regulation states that the bank can hold on check deposits that are not payroll for 6-10 business days for the first 30 days the account is open. It is to prevent check kiting!

Its funny that I caught this post today, as I am closing my Commerce checking account after 5 years of service with them.

1st off, in defense of bank clerks, there are 2 main banking centers by me and I have NEVER had a problem with any of the staff… even their trainees had no problem helping me if there was an error of any sorts.

And yes much as the $15 fee for not having $100 in the account at all times sucks, it still was worth it.

However, when a bank that used to force feed me the “same day checking” line starts charging me $35 UNCOLLECTED FUND FEEs (basically a bounced check that they paid) from money that has been cleared in my account for 2 days (the 1st offense) at their leasure and without any QUICK notice, there is an problem on THEIR end. I state QUICK, because most of my transactions including the “offending” transactions show up on my account within 1-2 days. The UNCOLLECTED FUNDS FEE , however, has shown up 3 weeks later (usually around the same time you get a notice in the mail). The first time this happened, I figured it was just an error, and that either myself or the banking hour rollover was off.

……and then I called the support line……..
Ive never been told to FVCK OFF in such a cheery voice before. The woman on the phone told me that they are no longer same day checking and that I would be reembursed the $35 as a 1-Time ONLY forgiveness.

This has since happened again and there is no doubt my full funds were available for almost a full week when this happened again. All I have left to say is that THIS IS SOME DIRTY UNDERHANDED BULLSHIT.

-Bye Bye Commerce.

Jim I am sorry but the UNC fee hits the next business day. Again it is illegal to write checks w/out the money in your account.

I guess Commerce (or should I say TD Bank) uses this craptastic website: http://www.commerceonline.com to make sure no one knows they’re one of the top 5 wealthiest banks in the world. I’m sure it’s just behind Bank of America, JP Morgan, Citigroup, HSBC, Santander, Wells Fargo and… oh wait – that’s six and none of them are TD Bank. Where exactly do you get your information from?

Heres the low down for me. I had plenty of money to pay a $6.00 check left me and a $25.43 Walmart debit card transaction they then I paid $117.00 T-mobile bill Commerce decided to go back two transactions before the T-mobile cause after Tmobile I was $3.00 short rather than charging me for the T-mobile heres the kicker, Commerce bank holds things wayy way way to long hoping you will have one thing over the amount so they can get it all! I ended up with a $125.00 headache of fees! I put in $65.00 cash and it took 4 days to clear CASH… the robotic response is, your cash is available to day “no its not” they want you to think that so you will use it and have it cound against you. they are greedy and want your money! the sign on the wall says two days “no matter what form you put in” dont listen to robotic responses.

Okay, for the last idiot that has no clue about what is speaking of. VISA decides the exp. date of when your charges expire thus posting to the account. If you use your PIN # and not your signature it will post that night (assuming it is a business day). I think you deposited a payroll check, which so many think is CASH. I have news for you, A CHECK IS A CHECK!! Meaning you can have it for w/draws and chk card purchases, but not to CLEAR CHECKS WRITTEN PRIOR TO YOUR DEPOSIT!! COMMON SENSE GOES ALONG WAY!!! And I apologize I meant the TOP 10. And the website is changing, hope you like it :)

Hi,

Hey Anonymous, I’m aware you work at Commerce – and that you continuously post from work. Good job smearing Commerce Bank’s reputation with your horrendous behavior.

It’s really nice that you call your customers idiots. Sure, a friendly bank doesn’t need to have real friendliness in its roots, but c’mon man. You really need to get it together. Also, Commerce isn’t even on of the largest banks in the country – let alone the world.

Check this out:

If you can show me where you read that information on Commerce bank being a behemoth in the banking world, i would greatly appreciate it.

I don’t even hate Commerce all that much. I was just frustrated by it. Now, I don’t think I want anything to do with it.

I love how people are getting ripped off by the Penny Arcade. Count your change before you go people!!!! See how much Commerce is ripping you off. Know of two cases at two different branches already and one of them was me! A friend got ripped off $7 and so I counted my change before I went in today and I got ripped off! Funny how I put in $56 dollars in quarters and dimes abd came out with $54.61!!! No one wants to help me with my complaint and no one helped the other person who got ripped off at another branch. Commerce’s thinking is you have no proof of what you put it so how do we know you really put in that much? Your change is all now mixed with the change already in there. Nice. Real nice.

1 05 2009
Chuck

It happens.. But even so, you’re probably still doing better than Coinstar or spending the time to roll it yourself.

Just make sure that before you dump your change in there that there is no junk in there with it. The majority of the rip-offs happen when debris get dumped into the machine along with your change (small nails, washers, foreign money, etc).

Just keep in mind the service is free, and that no one else offers it. They don’t HAVE to offer the penny arcade to you. So if you are getting cheated a couple bucks when you use it, then just roll your coins up instead.

Do you have anything better to do then right down this shit?

No place is perfect. Most banks have a 3 to 5 availablity day with, Commerce has NEXT day availability. NO other banks does!

Anytime after 6pm on Fridays, nothing will be available until Tuesday. WHY? Because the Federal Reserve is closed. NO BANK CAN HAVE IT AVAILABLE ANY EARLIER! I check is not cash, it is a check! Checks have to be sent to the Federal Reserve!

Did you ever think that the girl whom you spoke to, delt with 208,934 OTHER complaining people that day? It is not her fault that you didn’t keep your check book up to date. She was there to try and solve your problem. It couldn’t be solved because every bank has rules and regs and too bad if you can’t get your way!

Commerce is open until 8pm every weeknight. It is open until 6 on Saturdays and 4 on Sundays. This is not your regular work week, so I don’t know what you are talking about.

Complaing about fees. ITS YOUR FAULT!!!! If you go in the negative (which is a FELONY!!!) you are going to get charged!! Keep track of your money and it won’t happen! Yes its free for a year (which is courtesy) and then if you go under $100 it costs you $15. So what? How else do you think the bank is going to make any money? You think your money will just sit there, collecting a small amount of interest, while you use their services? NO!

AND ANYONE complaining about customer service is rediculous. Do you have a job? Do you really wanna smile at 500 faces a day, while 100 of them have a problem with you just for working there? NO.

Whatever the problem that you have with the bank is no the employees faught. Maybe another employee messed up your transaction, but that direct employee that you deal is NOT. So don’t take it out on them.

I have been working in Customer Service for too long and absolutely hate it. Yes I work a Commerce and hate it. I hate customers. I do and that is where this is coming from.

I am not yelling (typing) at you on purpose. I just hate Commerce and the f-ing people.

PS- Pardon the spelling/grammar, I didn’t proof read.

PS- The person saying that Commerce penny arcades rip you off. They do not.

I have to run 6 test coins a day! They are so annoying. I run a roll of each coin every hour to make sure that the sensor is counting correctly. AND if it didn’t count the exact $17.50 that put in, I have to clean and redo that process until it does.

Commerce does not rip you off.

Sara, I beg to differ. I used to have to service and change bags on the machine at my branch…

Our coin reject tray went to a cup inside the machine instead of rejecting to the bottom where the customer could grab it. It would fill up with mostly damaged change, which I was instructed to “THROW AWAY” believe it or not.

I took all of the Euros, Canadian money & other foreign currency home with me that I was told to trash. And as for the damaged change, I would take that and roll it up into coin rolls, and then bring it into the bank in exchange for cash.

I made a good $20-30 a week doing this, and still have several hundred dollars worth of Euros at home that need to be exchanged.

Also, beware that the dollar coins are not accepted. The Sacajaweas will go into the quarter bags (I used to have to pull them out of there), and the silver dollars just rattle around in the top and are eventually sent to the reject bin.

To Jim K:

I know what happened to you, this happened to my boyfriend all the time.

Next day availablity is the problem.
It is available but is not cleared.

Available and Cleared are NOT the same thing. Many people get this mixed up and it causes A LOT of issues.

Available basically means that the check has NOT been sent to the Federal Reserve and the funds have NOT been cleared. Basically what Commerce does is they make the funds AVAILABLE to you, until the check can be cleared. One of the things that you CAN NOT do with an Available check, is write checks against your account. You can withdraw money and use the ATM or debit card. But once you write a check, this becomes an issue.

CLEARED, means that the check was sent to the Federal Reserve and they cleared the check. You can do anything with this money that you desire now!

Basically, in your case, the check was made available and you wrote checks too early. The next day availablity is on AVAILABLE, not CLEARED. For the check to actually CLEAR takes 3-5 days

WOW SARA,
You really are smart! LOL,duh and it only is common sense that the check has not cleared. LOL, if you people actually paid attention to what your doing and took the time to manage your chkbook we would all be better! I just think there is no such thing as a perfect bank, nor a perfect world for that matter and that we all need to relax and stop worrying about the small stuff!

Not A Hostage Consumer

JJRC – glad I found your blog. I have been on a “find complaints about TD Bank” mission. Get me pissed, I’m a dog with sharp teeth on a big bone…

First, I have to comment on what I read above from various supposed TD Bank employees and their BS.

They are prime examples of why we will no longer do business with TD Bank and are closing all our TD Bank accounts. And, as soon as we close with a new lender on refi’s in process, an open equity loan with them will be dumped – last thing TD Bank is going to get moving forward is a single penny of our money for anything.

Responders above just reinforced the disgraceful attitudes and service perspectives in general. (Makes the adage hold true about banks: stick with your smaller local banker – that’s where we’re moving our accounts to.)

The responders showed they can’t type (and they enter important data in financial transactions???), they can’t talk properly, they sure represent their employer well with the foul language and name calling, and they showed they not only can’t read but do not know how to interpret clearly stated facts correctly.

Cracked me up how many times you explained your transaction was a dup EFT — and they respond back don’t write checks you can’t cover. Gotta love it. These are people that can see my personal information and control my money?? Scary shit.

Been a long time Commerce customer with multiple accounts and sizeable bank balances for “regular folk” all in all – the other local banker wants our business, that’s for sure. Guess TD is so big, our balances are puny and worthless to them. So be it. Buh Bye. (TD Bank – or TDB equals: TERRIBLE DOING BUSINESS with.) TD Bank may be big in Canada but not so big in USA – yet. We will hopefully make them a little smaller… Apparently, they can afford to lose customers in this economy.

The only “problems” encountered with Tellers is sloooowwwww at the drive-through — what the hell is taking so long!!!!!, and they do not take customers in order at the drive through – that’s a huge pet peeve. Tellers are usually very nice and friendly. Although had to snap at two young girls recently who were yapping away and giggling with each other as I wasted gas and ticked off the minutes I’d be late for work – I slapped the talk button and told them to quit their gossiping and get my transaction processed as they were on MY time. That shut them up.

Anyway – our current issue is multi-part and involves the worst service / performance ever received in refinancing transactions from loan officer through to underwriting and beyond – that’s saying a LOT from us as we’ve got plenty of experience in dealing with mortgage transactions. Would never have thought it of TD Bank but there it is – they are the WORST we’ve ever worked with. I’d be filling this blog with pages if I even attempted to try and explain the ways in which TD Bank has sucked as a mortgage lender.

This marketplace aside as it has no bearing from our perspective — with TD Bank, we’re well past 60 days from inception of process and still counting with no communication as to status of final underwriting and closing dates being set. Any communication we have had was only because we had to initiate it – meaning, asking every so often what the hell is going on?? Actually, we’ve received the absolute minimum level of communication even possible in a loan process – been unbelievable how little there has been, has to be a world record.

Contrarily, we’ve had incredibly fast responses and more communication back and forth, the best overall service you can imagine, from another lender (yeah, someone who wants our business), in a mere 7 day period including weekend than we’ve gotten from TD Bank in over 60. Closings with new lender estimated to be completed from start to finish in max time frame of two weeks. And, yes, they are on track to keep their promise. Painless, easy, done – the way it should be. That’s what TD Bank should have been able to do (especially for clients in very good standing) and couldn’t or wouldn’t. Makes one wonder – why would that be? Are we looking at a lender that doesn’t really want to close on loans at low rates locked in? Do they hope we’ll tell them to take a hike because they won’t make as much money on the loans as they’d like? Wouldn’t surprise me. Something smells bad here and it isn’t us.

Oh, TD approvals were done long time ago (still latest ever received from anyone in history of dealing with mortgage co’s) but the rest of the processing has now languished and languished and languished. They also took our money for appraisals and then didn’t even order them until we followed-up well over two weeks later asking where’s the appraiser? That was really nice of them, huh? Have never had a bank take the appraisal money and not at least order the appraisals within 48 hours.

Look, we’re lucky compared to most considering the economy today and are not even close to the “foreclosure” pending line – simply refi’g to take advantage of low rates locked in when they dropped to lowest ever. What’s scary is if we were in trouble with our mortgages, can’t imagine what we’d be dealing with. We’re considered “A” customers – process should have been swift and easy. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. OUR current bank of all people – TD Bank – has set the distinction of being the absolutely worst bank ever dealt with in mortgage transactions ever. They top the list. There are banks I refuse to work with and swear we will refi just to make sure they don’t hold a mortgage with our names on it (B of A a good example) but TD Bank has made the other guys pale in comparison when it comes to their mortgage loan handling. TERRIBLE. DISGRACEFUL. UNACCEPTABLE.

FOLKS – STAY AWAY FROM TD BANK FOR MORTGAGES. THAT GREAT DEAL IS NOT A GREAT DEAL WHEN YOU CAN’T GET THEM TO DO THEIR JOBS AND GET YOU TO CLOSING ANY TIME SOON.

TD Bank has lost a customer all the way around and haven’t even touched on all the issues – one resulting in formal complaints to regulatory agencies being necessary.

In end, taking the swift action we KNOW that WE can take – moving our money OUT.

Buh Bye TD Bank. Better run out of the USA before you’re “nationalized”.

I have a business account with them…..HAD!! I made a deposit of only $1,800 the day before I tried to make a withdrawel. My account read that I never made a deposit. When I called they told me checks take 3 days to clear. ?????? Don’t they have a big “NEXT DAY AVAILABITY ON ALL DEPOSITS BEFORE 6PM” thing going on right now. BULLSHIT!!

yeh i am dealing with their mortgage now they took the money off my account at the citybank 2 wks ago and now are sending me a letter that i did not pay and $108 late fee that is a bit for a late fee. The customer service was rude on the phone too refusing to waive the fee saying it is not a td bank fault when i asked her how does she know she could not even think and was even more rude. The customer and other service sucks i hope they go out of busness or improove so i do not have to deal with them for 30years.

TD just took their Visa card from hero to zero overnight with the same lousy terms other greedy banks already have — such as a $39 late fee (whatever happened to their “no stupid fees” slogan!), many ways to become “in default” even if you’re making all payments on time, and nearly doubling the interest rate. I wouldn’t be surprised if next they start having us send our payments to Delaware (the best predictor of ripoff credit card terms) instead of good old Cherry Hill, NJ. So much for their empty promise that, “nothing would change” with the Commerce to TD transition!!! The best insult I can give this card is pay off my balance, which I just did. Next, I’ll be shopping for a new bank. People are scared to change banks, but I moved from Chase (another ripoff bank) to Commerce with only minor inconvenience, and I’ll happily do it again.

Nice blog. I can appreciate your position. I had my account with them for 20+ years. I only had minor problems or complaints until my identity was stolen and I had several debits that were not mine show up in my checking account. The first few were in November. I disputed the charges and after a few weeks and an investigation I was credited the money back. In the mean time my debit card was canceled and I was issued a new card. In January another charge from SCI* STAMPS.COM shows up. I immediately called Commerce and disputed that charge and had the new card canceled. I received the provisional credit until they completed their investigation and after a few weeks they credit was removed and I received a letter that my dispute had been declined. I went to a branch near my office to complain and ask why my dispute had been declined and the representative called the dispute department while I waited at her desk. She was always polite, and I hope I was the same to her. At the end of the phone call the dispute was reopened. After several more weeks I received another letter telling me again that my dispute was declined and giving me a phone number to call if I wanted a copy of the documentation used to make their decision. Of course I wanted to see the documentation. I called the number and after giving the woman my name and why I was calling she looked up my history (I had been following up by calling once a week to ask about the status) and began speaking to me in a very condescending tone. She told me I was declined because their investigator found I had a relationship with Stamps.com (the company behind SCI*STAMPS.COM) They had my address and other information to prove it. She went on to explain that I had opened an account with them in October and had not canceled it before the trial period had ended and they couldn’t help me if I agreed to something and didn’t comply. This charge was on the new card I had only received in early January. I protested that it was not logical that I had opened an account in October with a card I did not have until January. She responded with the charge was actually on the old card, but it had not been charged to it, so it was put on the new card. I asked her if she meant the charge had been run against the card that I had canceled because the number had been stolen with my identity? She didn’t want to talk to me any more. I asked again for the documentation they used and she said it would be sent to me. I has been a month now and I have not received anything. I have closed that account, filed a complaint with the BBB, and spoken to everyone at my office to try and convince them to move their accounts before they need help from Commerce. As far as I am concerned they will not make any effort to improve their employee training until they are losing enough customers to get someone’s attention.

I used to work at Commerce Bank a while back, and I agree with the situation of the poster of this blog.

The good number of the people working at TD/Commerce generally have their heads up their own asses. There are some, however, who are the exception. It is true that a majority of the time, customers did just come in pissed off right away for something THEY did wrong. And I can’t tell you how difficult it is to help someone out that insists that you are responsible for them not being able to balance a checkbook…. But so is the world of working with other people’s money.

However, there were a good number of situations where the bank would offer little or no help where a genuine F-up was made on the bank’s behalf . And it happened more often that you would think (almost daily). It even happened to me.

Just another prime example, a few years after leaving working with the bank, I went to open up a new checking account. And the jack-ass at customer service guy obviously just wanted to get out the door and couldn’t give a flying-f$*k about entering any of my information correctly. I ended up getting checkbooks with the WRONG ACCOUNT NUMBER posted on them. As you can imagine, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE when I had my rent checks (for two locations) bounce on me. I was then told by Commerce I needed to get photocopies of bank statements from the people I wrote the checks out before they could reimbursed them the fees that had shown up on their accounts. Obviously, the check recipients were not pleased, since they wanted not only their rent money, but the fees taken care of immediately. All in all, it took an extra week+ process the whole thing and get new checks.

And… All the wonderful fees are coming back, as a lot of you may have noticed. I received an “Uncollected Funds Fee” today of $35 for god knows what. They’ll be getting a call later today. And money orders are no longer free either. It’s just a matter of time before they start charging to use the penny arcade.

4 05 2009
Pissed Off

They should not be allowed to get away with the $hit they pull on their customers. They make millions of BS fees every year. Most the time, it is their incompetent workforce that is responsible for the errors. Then after waiting 30 minutes to speak to a representative on the phone, you get told you are a liar, then told to go to the branch to speak to someone. Then you go to the branch, and the person who insisted when you asked if they were still on the same banking day swears they never told you that. Then you’re FUC|<ed out of $35 and the cycle repeats.

Also, if you’re dumb enough to open a checking account with them, quadruple check all the information they enter because the retarded monkeys often make mistakes when putting in your information.

They really need one of those customer screens that show you what they’re doing while they’re doing it.

I am so glad I am not the only one spreading some knowledge on the bullshit that TD bank is pulling. I started Commerce years ago and stayed a happy customer. It was the only bank not open just from 9-3 and could actually be used for the majority of people working a 9-5 job. The very same week that TD put the their sign up my account has been all kinds of messed up. I am not the only one. Someone above suggested to us unhappy customers to leave and I will be along with four other people closing their accounts this week. Between all of us we have had bullshit fees, unauthorized ILLEGAL transactions and no notifications of their policies they are claiming were “always there” So that check that was placed into my Fiance’s account didn’t clear because NOW they hold them for one day. My “free” checking now costs money. My history of transactions are out of order so the money I placed in three days before goes in after the transaction it was meant to cover and I get a fee and a nice “oh well your fault” attitude from the same customer service that tells you where to go to cancel your account if you aren’t happy with your banking experience. No thanks for that advice I have been shopping for other banks. my dog is allergic to your fucking “treats” and I’d tell you that in person but I am not wasting a perfectly good day waiting on hold. I will be spreading the word to NEVER bank with you

I just can’t believe that this is still going on. I am still working for the bank and yes I am blogging on the last 10 minutes of my shift. Oh well! since TD has taken over, I have gotten 2 raises making over $20.00 an hour now, thank you. I am also well on my way to making a name for myself here. I hate to see all this garbage on your website, but like someone else said; for the 5 of you that hate us, there is a million that love us. We have been rated # 1 3 years in a row by JD POWER and Associates. No bank is totally free! Like i told someone today, NSF fees have been around since banks began, you can’t write checks on money you don’t have. People have and continue to go to jail for such nonsense. What kills me is that we bend over backwards 99% of the time for you people, and sometimes things are physically impossible or illegal and can’t be done, and when you hear that you want to close your account. That’s fine, less headache for me. I wish you the best of luck and your blog didn’t get popular till I ran across it and made a comment. So I think I should get some kind of thank you for making your blog a success!!! Oh how’s WAMU, excuse me I meant Chase, that severely lacks in customer service skills and other things that I won’t mention.

I have some questions. What does TD Bank do with all of the foriegn currency that sticks to the internal magnet located inside the Penny Arcade machine? What does TD bank do with all the foriegn and non-foreign currency that gets blocked by the internal change bags that never make the change return? It would seem that TD bank may be making additional profits from patrones who unknowingly believe they are being reimbursed for “All” change being emptied into the machine. I believe some folks are being ripped off since there are no signs on the machine telling you that Penny’s internal magnet or blocked coin return may be holding some change and I wonder how much free money TD claims on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis.

WOW. Intelligent response Anonymous. Now I understand why you identify yourself as Anonymous. I ask the questions because I have a friend who visits various TD branchs weekly and removes the foreign currency from the magnet and blocked coin return weekly. Last month he claimed more that $52.00 in Canadian coins alone. Which led me to believe TD Bank is making a substantial profit. In the spirit of full disclosure TD Bank should disclose the fact to their patrons that all coins may not be subject to reimbursement. Eample foreign currency and Eisenhower dollars which on occasion are pulled from the machine and added to TD Banks bottom line. Anyway, no need for testy remarks as I am only concerned for the health and well being of all those folks in need of every penny in todays harsh economic times. Have a wonderful day Anonymous.

I am a current TD Bank employee. I have been so for two years and have had the same account with this bank since 99 before my employment. I have worked in a branch, and now work in the back office so i have seen and hurd it all. People never fail to amaze me with their rude, callouced ignorance becasue THEY fucked up their own shyt. Let me tell you this, if you want to bitch, moan and groan about a fuckin 15 dollar fee, keep the required 100 dollars in the account after the first year of account establishment. Then the account is totally free. If not, take your low budget ass to another fuckin back becasue we do not need, or have the time to deal with the stupidity of you ignorat in-bred, stuck up, broke, cocky ass idiots. People who cannot keep a simple check register, call an automated service, or speak to a live person, that will dman near add and subtract for you, to make sure that your account is in good standing…and still bounce checks, and get bank fees…ARE THE REASON WHY AMERICA’S ECONOMY IS IN THE FUCKED UP STATE IS IS IN TODAY.

TD Bank is not a bank that nickle and dimes people who have account with them like other banks do. When you open your account, by law, you are provided with a booklet that clearly outlines all the banks rules and stipulations. It’s less than 10 pages. If you cannot read and know what you are in for when you open your account. Don’t blame the bank becasue down the line you get a fee becasue your silly, stupid simple ass failed to read the booklet. It’s your fault, not the bank’s. Suck it up, or close your fucking account.

The penny aracde money is not kept at TD Bank, or used as profit. if it isn’t US currency, it’s spit out in the slot at the bottom of the machine so the person using the penny Arcacde to take to the teller counter and exchange for US currency. I have seen it with all types of foreign currency, INCLUDING CANADIAN. I have even tried it with Jamaican currency before becomming a bank employee. So, whomever made up that crock of shit they told you… is an idiot.

IF YOU DONT LIKE COMMERCE/TD BANK…TAKE YOUR COINS TO SHITTY ASS SOVEREIGN(BAILED OUT), WACHOVIA(BAILED OUT), WAMU(BAILED OUT) OR SORRY ASS CHARGE YOU TO CALL CUSTOMER SERIVCE, USE THEIR OWN ATMs BANK OF AMERICA.

TD BANK IS THE SHYT AND YOU ALL FUCKIN KNOW IT. YOU ARE JUST MAD BECASUE YOU FUCKED UP WHAT LITTLE MONEY YOU DO HAVE.

I WORK FOR TD BANK, NOT ONLY ARE WE AMERICA’S MOST CONVENIENT BANK, BUT OR NEW MOTTO IS NOW…TD BANK:FUCK A BAIL OUT! HAVE A FUCKING WOWTASTIC DAY!

TH3_BADD3ST,
Employee’s like Anonymous and yourself are the reason people are leaving TD Bank. I am investigating several hundred inquiries that were made between September 25, and September 29, 2009. TD Banks customer service line (1-888-751-9000) which claims to be 24/7/365 had been offline for 17 hours now. Poor customer service as far as I am concerned. Not to mention the irate people in this forum, as well as the lack of understanding and complete ignorance shown by the supposed “Employees” of TD Bank. This forum has opened our eyes, much thanks to the remarks of supposed employees and their infantile and confused replies.

Not a TD Bank employee

Um, did the ‘Wow-tastic’ employee who posted above fail to get the memo? Perhaps when you don’t work in a field that demands accountability, seeing ‘words’ like ‘hurd’ and ‘callouced’ typed by a TD Bank employee only supports the purpose of this page. Really? You’re complaining about ignorant customers who need to go to another ‘back’, but you can barely write what even resembles the English language? Do you know how that reflects upon you? Besides coming back and cursing at me, what is your defense? Were you too lazy to use spell check? Too stoned to complete your primary education? How can you possibly complain about the attitude of customers who are questioning your basic minimal skills when you write like the missing link? I don’t have to insult what money you may or not make, because your stupidity is obvious (thus making an estimation of your net worth a cinch). You have been trained to push buttons, read training manuals on how check registers work, and now you think that you are an authority on banking policies? Again, judging from your lack of writing skills, I know that there is no formal education to back up the authority that you that think you have.

When peons are fortunate enough to gets jobs (notice I said job and not career) that are more than the meager wages they are used to, they will defend their employer to the ends of the earth. Now that that’s out of the way, please don’t think that I am not empathetic to people who work in customer service. There are plenty of customers and situations that probably make for an uncomfortable work environment. That doesn’t mean that you are entitled to patronize the customer base that keep your employer in business, and paychecks in your pocket. Customers aren’t just happy, shiny people coming to make deposits. Customers aren’t only the people who don’t cause you to do any actual work. Contrary to what you think, people who accept no personality responsibility and induce a complete break-down in ethical, competent business practices are the real reason for this country’s financial woes.

Next time, before you decide to post on the internet again, at least have the common courtesy to hit the spell check button. After giggling uncontrollably for so long at your asinine post, I actually got nauseous.

Written what way on purpose? What is a formal marine as opposed to an informal marine? Is that military slang for something? Again, my statement about stupidity stands.

Funny, my friends don’t stalks the same blogs I do to defend my posts. I noticed the cooled tone and an attempt at better grammar. Nice try, but it is obvious that the same person wrote the post that I slammed is now coming to defend the content of the obviously well educated ‘formal’ marine. Thanks for the laughs.

Joe-TD BANK

Hey all! This blog is awesome! Love it! I do currently work for TD Bank. I have been there for two and a half years. I am a customer service representative at one of the larger transaction volume store. I have seen my fair share of angry customers. Most of the employees that deal with customers face to face are nice, personable and a pleasant. But even I have called many different departments with TD Bank and have been given the run-around or the person on the other end of the phone was extremely rude to me. I’m just trying to help a customer and a fellow co worker was being short, rude, and discourteous.

Also, Penny Arcade! GOD! “She” yes that’s right…”She” annoys the hell out of me! “Her” name is Penny Arcade! Yes, we do test “her” four times a day to ensure “she” counts correctly. “She” counts correctly about 75% of the time(made up number based on what I have seen-NOT facts). “She” does have two magnetic strips that keeps foreign coins. When we do test the machine we clear the magnetic strips and place all the foreign coins in a bag in the vault. When the bag is half way full we send it out with the rest of the US coins. So, “TH3 BADD3ST” you are wrong! Just like a fellow co worker to not know what they are talking about! But, I’m not surprised that not all branches are run the same way. I, personally, have asked what does TD Bank do with the foreign coins. I’m told that they beleive that TD Bank does get credited with whatever the total amount is. So, “Mike” yes they do make a profit from customers. BUT, it cost them a hell of alot more to maintain the machines so they are loosing money in the long run. They should get rid of Penny Arcade and use the money to hire competant employees! They should also get rid of dishonest employees like “chuck” that apparently steal money from Penny Arcade. Still not sure which is worse…..”chuck” stealing the money or “TD Bank”!!

“Sarah”, you are correct about AVAILABLE and CLEARED! There is a huge difference BUT it’s not being communicated to the customers properly. That is a huge issue of mine! When the tellers are making the checks available they should inform the customer, IN DETAIL, of how it works. Yes, I have complained about my concerns to the head teller and branch manager but it fell on deaf ears.

“Mike Berrick/M&L Repair Inc.” sorry to hear about the incompetence of my fellow co workers! I know my appology will probably mean nothing to you. If a check “hits” your account in the morning, it means that it actually cleared TD Bank the night before. You have up until noon to make a cash deposit before they(the branch where you opened the account) will return the check. If you complain enough, they can call the “Returns Department” up until 1PM to reverse the branches decision and pay your checks. You will still incurr a $35.00 fee per transaction that has caused the account to go negative.

“Bruce”, I can feel your frustation! I have never heard of that. It makes me wonder why they would post the charge, that came on the old card that was cancelled, to the new card. I highly doubt they can get away with that! Please do follow up with the BBB and complain to the highest levels possible because that sounds really shady.

“Not A Hostage Consumer” all I can say is WOW! That’s horrible but I’m not surprised. As Commerce, customer service reps did not have anything to do with mortgages. But now with TD Bank we are supposed to have a “working knowledge” of mortgages so we can take in applications. TD Bank’s training for their employees at the branch was a three to five hours online course. THAT’S IT! How the hell can we possible know all the ins and outs of mortgages with a 5 hour online course! We are extremely clueless as far as mortgages are concerned at the branch level! I’m surprised that the mortgage department took so long to communicate with you. We do offer $500.00 if we don’t close your mortgage within 60 days of the application. I would look into that. Maybe you will at least get some money for all your troubles!

“vanderstreet” calling the employees “faggot tellers” “liars” or “retards”won’t get any sympothy from me. I am not a “faggot teller” but I am an openly gay customer service representative. In addition, I do pride myself on my intellegence and truthfullness.

OK, I’m done ranting! Thanks for posting this “JJRC”! Sorry about all the rudeness and misinformation that you endured at Commerce & TD Bank! Hope everything is better for you now! :o )

PS-I am currently applying to other institutions because I can’t work somewhere that I beleive is not being totally truthful with employee and customers. Its a tough market out there! I wish all of you the best of luck with your finances!

I have never met you, but I wish you worked at my branch. Thank you for taking the time out to address these folks. I wish more people had a sense of “honor” about their work…

I too think TD sucks, they suck so bad that I’ve pulled my mortgage from the bank and closed my account. I received incredibly inaccurate mortgage info that cost me thousands out of my wallet. Their entire ad campaign is centered around easy to understand accurate mortgage advice…bullshit. Also they have the worst customer service. I had to call back 3 to 4 times before I finally received any help.

TD Bank is the worst bank ever! My husband was laid off last april and we have been living on my salary & the very little unemployment he receives ever since. We live in CT, only a 30 minute drive to NYC, hence the cost of living is very expensive. We have overdrawn our account several times this summer and I get paid every 2 weeks and he receives his unemployment every 2 weeks and they happen to fall on the same week. Do you know that if your account is negative that you will be charged a $35 fee every 5 days until is is positive again?! I can’t beleive that in this economy that they will continue to charge you $ that you obviously don’t have! This is unethical and should be illegal!

I just opened an account at TD bank and it has been nothing, but probems
since day one! I swear after my checks clear I am closing this account and
keeping my money under the god damn mattress. They are the biggest scam artits in the world. Every time i deposit a pay check they tell me it will clear by the next day, well I have had them lose my checks and put a hold on my account for a week and a half. This last time I deposited it with the teller the previous time was at an ATM, and that was the reasoning for them losing the check, the teller did not fare much better. This time my check is being held for 6 days according to federal regulation, which three tellers and a costumer service rep failed to tell me. I now have late fees and since i work my ass off for a measley pay have no money for another week.

I am SO with you on everything you won’t. I’m struggling just like you and they did me dirty. I was seriously saying the same thing to myself (about putting my money under my mattress); it’s not like the “interest generated” from my bootsie-ass checking account is cover all of the fees they charge me.

Note from a dssatisfied customer

So, the great TD Bank has lost all of our deposits – and they’re sorry, but you still cannot access your payroll deposit, or withdraw funds, or pay bills – however, any debits will show up immediately – so, exactly what did happen to all of our deposits? Why is the customer service 888 number not in service – “Please try again later”? Please visit us – we can’t help you, but you can take time away from work to find that out in person!
Why do they know nothing at the branches except “what they were told to tell customers”.

Let’s face it, if they knew they were doing a major software swap, they should have staffed-up to handle customer service issues. This is not the bank they claim to be and as soon as I can access my hard earned money, I’ll be switching banks, as I suspect others will as this is payday for probably all of their customers.

Expect a few more dissatisfied comments to be tacked on in light of their recent switchover. Horrendous.

Damn I randomly came across this page, don’t even remember how the hell I got here, next thing I know an hour and a half has gone by…. props for an interesting blog.. although like alot of the other people who posted, I worked in banking for 3 years, the bank I worked at actually paid you like a human being though ;-)

Just to be fair, I walked in to TD Wednesday evening and a kind customer service rep settled me up in just a few minutes. No reason at all for it to happen the way it did, but I was satisfied with the way I was treated in person. Still… credit unions are probably in my future. I’ve been a part of way too many buyouts gone bad.

P.S. There were two ladies out front of the branch today wearing PNC propaganda. Wolves, they are. All of them.

I should be sleeping.. but I came across your blog while trying to research what the FUCK has been going on with my bank. I work at TD Bank, full time teller.

Looking into a different bank.. sticking with the job til I finish school next September, if I didn’t have rent to pay I wouldn’t be there.

Not one person from corporate told us shit about what was going on, I’m sure you all know about the BS that’s gone down in TD Bank this week, the system’s being down. Or whatever, I don’t know what to call it, cause all they did was feed me fluff and buy us lunch. Yea that really helps, shit was unacceptable. The first day I couldn’t help being mad at my customer’s, I’m human. But the second? The third? The fourth? I’m a customer too, definitely moving my account, and I’d suggest anyone else with a TD account to do the same.

I’ve done my best to help everyone out in the only way I knew how, by being honest. “I feel so useless, I can’t help you” was my response when it came to any questions about people’s accounts over this week.

Made me feel like shit. This was unacceptable. I’d apologize, but it’s not my right to do so, none of us in the stores knew what the hell was going on. Two years, TWO YEARS corporate has had to plan this.

I’ve only been alive nineteen years, but even in my meager time here, I know that NOTHING ever works out the way you planned, I’m not god or a superhero or something. Neither is TD Bank. Taking down every fucking store at the same time, expecting everything to work fine? UNBUHFUCKINLEIVABLE.

I’m gonna go work as a farm hand til I’m done school or something..

I hate td bank.. here’s my wake up call, move my tiny accounts, and find a new job!

=]

don’t tell my boss i’m not being wow about td bank! ha.

Since the merger on Sept. 26, TD is now charging a 5.00 TRANSFER FEE
ON OVERDRAFT PROTECTION. THIS MEANS THAT THEY ARE
CHARGING YOU A FEE TO TRANSFER MONEY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT
TO YOUR ACCOUNT! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. THE PURPOSE OF
OVERDRAFT PROTECTION is not to have to pay any
ADDITIONAL FEES. HOW DARE THEY CHARGE A FEE TO
TRANSFER MONEY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT TO YOUR ACCOUNT
every time you use it! Be aware people! BE VERY AWARE!
WHAT’S NEXT???

I hate this bank. they mess with my account and then blame it on me. I had a automatic withdraw come out for $42. (school fee) no problems till last month. Got my notice from school on the 5th saying “thank You for your payment” like i do every month, looked at my account online its has been withdrawn. 8 days later i go back in my account to check up on some things and im over drawn. i see in my pending transactions that the $42. for school is in there. I look back to the original date it was taken and it was gone. i had $170 in overdraft fees. I call 4 different people and got 4 different answers… Finally got it resolved and they told me that the school gave me the money back and then re-withdrew it. Still never told me why they just wiped it clean, like it never happened from my account. I should have see $42- withdraw $42- deposit and the $42 withdraw. I am wrong here? after crying on the phone to one nice lady she refunded me my overdraft fees.

So, yesterday i went on my account to make sure everything is taken out and put in like i do everyday. I charged $16.74 to Party City. I showed in my account that it was cleared. I look this morning to see if my check was deposited. WOW no check, But i have my ATM withdraw fee refunded. Then i notice my balance is high then it should be. so i look back and they took the Party City charge off my account. I have yet to call. Still pissed off

Im 27 in College and i have a 2 year old. I dont have the extra money for them to play with. They need to get there shit right.

Oh and anyone who reads this. You should always get the persons name and extension/last name or ID number and the date and time you spoke to them. This way when you complain to the “managers” you can give them the exact person you spoke to. Sometimes it does help.

I hate TD Bank! The Customer Service Reps are idiots…sorry but I get NEW information EVERYTIME I call in…which by the way has changed, as now you dont get a live person on the phone within seconds – you have to wait 15-20 minutes to talk to a moron. All the new services being provided by TD are ways to nickel and dime us…. Im going over to close my account!

Dear J England,

Thank you for contacting TD Bank “America’s Most Convenient Bank.”

As we said, we have more than one location in Mount Holly.

How many branches there were at the time you opened the account is irrelevant to this matter. You were filing a complaint about the ‘Mount Holly branch”

We merely stated that there is more than one Mount Holly location and that since you had gone to the site saw this you would have understood why we needed further clarification relating to the specific location.

It would be foolish for us to not obtain the correct location as then we could not have field your complaints.

If we may be of further assistance, please contact Customer Support directly by secured message from within Online Banking or by telephone at 888-751-9000.

For your convenience, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sincerely,

Pam

I’ve had the most horrible experience with this bank. I kid you not.

I received a letter last week stating that I was in the hole for over one hundred and fifty dollars. I checked my account and discovered that as of Thursday, that amount increased to two hundred and eighty dollars.

I went to my local branch and had the displeasure of being taken cared of by an extremely arrogant young person who basically told me in so many words that I did not know how to balance my check book and that he would credit my account for the two hundred and eighty dollars but “going forward, ” I’d have to be a bit more careful! I repeatedly told him that I carefully monitor every transaction and do not charge or debit anything that is not in my account.

He would not listen. I was angry but happy to get my money and just left.

The next morning, I am expecting to see my money and nothing. I checked several times and nothing. I finally go back to the bank and speak to another young man who was also smug and arrogant. He accused me of ” using services, ” that had no right to! He practically accused me of charging/debiting money that I didn’t have in the bank.

I got two statements from him. And I found a few interesting things: the first that they charged me twice for THREE transactions and that instead of two hundred and eighty dollars; they were supposed to credit me for three hundred and fifty. I am so furious. I live from pay check to pay check and this is killing me.

Further more, I called earlier to the customer service line because the bank was closed and was disconnected three times. I kid you not. I am on the phone right now (on hold) to speak to someone who is really not going to be of any help.

I am angry because there seems to be some type of problem with upgrades that they made to their system and they refused own up to it and instead chose to hide their issues therefore putting the customer in very precarious positions.

I am very angry and am seriously considering closing my account.
Title: How to reconcile an account

Thanks for an excellent read JJRC… Its good to know that my husband and I are not alone in being frustrated with the new TD Bank.

I’ve been a happy Commerce Bank customer since 2003… very few problems or complaints (and if I had one before this year, it was generally a miscommunication or misunderstanding that was quickly cleared up — and not something that the bank had done incorrectly). However, since Commerce and TD merged, the problems have been growing steadily. We are not to the point where money has been lost (yet), but the devil is in the details of small things.

It began with attempting to change my account information to my married name… then to my husband misplacing his wallet and not being able to get new cards for a solid week due to the software change… to now noticing that large internal transfers are not taking effect because yesterday was Sunday. The CSR’s explanation was that the transfer could not take place because yesterday was Sunday.

Now, having read the previous comments, I understand why a check might not clear on Sunday due to the Federal Reserve being closed, but am completely unclear why it would make a difference moving the funds from one TD account to another TD account. The funds have been verified already. Its all internal.

Even the fee for the account going under $100 is new from the last year or so. This was not something I was charged until fairly recently.

The bottom line is that the customer service has gradually gotten worse. The convenient hours are no compensation to otherwise being treated like my business doesn’t matter. Enough is enough, and we’ll be switching banks before the service degrades any further. I’ve worked customer service. I know what its like to be yelled at for no reason for minimal wages. To me that is no excuse for the general decline in customer service at TD Bank.

And just in case you are wondering, we’ve been thinking about switching for a while, but I’ve resisted knowing that banks are banks, and the grass is always greener on the other side. However, I’d much rather have full disclosure of what they’ll be charging me, and be treated well for my business.

I have been banking with TD Bank for close to a year now, and I have never had a worse experience with banking institution. To make a long story short I have been charged multiple $35.00 NSF fees within the past month. On every occasion I have been able to prove(with the help of ATM receipts and online banking) there were sufficient funds in my checking account to cover the “bounced checks”. However, this is very stressful, I am monitoring my account on a daily basis until all of my outstanding checks have cleared and I will be moving my accounts to another local bank. I was under the impression that a bank was you partner in your finances, now I am afraid that TD Bank is essentially stealing from their customers as much as they can. I am posting this as a warning to others, watch your accounts, and keep all your receipts. Having the exact dates and time of deposits and balances were helpful to me when arguing with “customer service”.
I did manage to have the fees removed from my account.

I see now I am not the only one going through this crap!
First I made a deposit on Sat. suppose to go through on Monday the deposit actually went through Tuesday but showed that it was available Monday. Yet on Sat. and Sun. the Available and the “balance” were different. Yet on Monday I went to an ATM, and did some shopping looked at my balance Tuesday and it was fine, Wednesday there was a $210.00 fee on my account, an overdraft fee which my account statement NEVER showed negative. Without getting into all of the boring details of the back and forth conversation I am very disappointed after 10 YEARS of business they pretty much said too bad we don’t care. The withdrawals were made on Monday the deposit was made on Monday why the fees. This has changed as I have been with them 10years plus and never had the issues I have had in the past few months. To top it all off last month I emailed them about OD fees when my account was not negative and they just emailed me back saying we have reversed the charges, I was assuming they made a mistake and never thought twice about it….So the $210.00 fee they said they would not reverse cause I had the other two reversed. I proceeded to tell her that I thought the fees were a mistake they made that no one explained anything and I have the emails, they didn’t care at all. I continued to tell her that there are numerous times I have had an available balance different form my total balance and that there are times that I hit an ATM and try to grab $200.00 only to realize I only have $180.00 and it denies me but now all of the sudden you are telling me that I can overdraw from an ATM???? Then to slap me in the face even harder she says well if you would have waited till Monday and went into the teller this would have been avoided. The next questions I asked when they told me I should know when funds are made available I asked her how? The account said it wasn’t then it said on Monday it was available and made the withdrawl from that, she said well it would be at least one day (even know me statement says 11/16 she is telling me it went through 11/17) but in some cases more if they feel they need to hold it. So I asked how would I know she said they mail you a letter telling you why they held it, my response it great so in the meanwhile your making withdrawls and being charged! Horrible to a long time customer like myself. After $210.00 four weeks before Christmas Three kids living check to check, they now say that I can cancel out of this program? Thanks a little late for that!!!

CK .. i completely agree with you! I had the same experience. Before it switched over to td bank i never had one problem, then td bank automaticly enrolls you in a over draft protection which is along the lines of fraud.
